Hi
I’m looking for powerful methods and tools to be able to catch the right moment of wildlife using DSRL
Has anyone had any experience with this device?

Could you take a look please, I would need your opinion if this tool could be apply to waylay birds or other animals?

Thanks,
Christa

Interesting....how does differ from a remote to your camera? And what is the cost of this one? jim

This looks more impressive than anything that I have attempted to use.

It looks very interesting with features such as timed and sequenced control outputs and a colossal choice of triggers. It clearly could be used for bird, insect or mammal photography as illustrated in the photo gallery, however, it is something that you would buy and configure for a specific project rather than purchase on spec as you need to get the most appropriate sensor(s), cables etc.

At 286 Euros including one sensor it is affordable, but I would certainly agree that you should talk to an existing user to make sure that it is as good as its advertising suggests. Perhaps the manufacturers can put you in touch with someone who has used it for a similar project to yours?

Looking at the affordable competition they seem to be mainly based in the USA and not as well specified, being little more than remotes with various triggers.

A similarly priced system but less flexible is described here, it does have reviews http://www.flaghead.co.uk/pages/triggersmart/triggersmart-intro.html. The triggersmart is fairly limited, however the sensors of the Phasetrigger with a claimed maximum range of 12 m has theoretically greater potential for wildlife.

Hello iveljay, thanks sharing your opinion!

Reading the Phase Trigger’s Operating Manual it seems to be a quite interesting tool using a large range of industrial quality sensors.

http://www.wenglor.de/index.php?id=29&L=0

There is an interface for those industry standard sensors who makes this device flexible also for wildlife photography. If you take a look on the operation mode

you can see that Phase Trigger is a multi-purpose tool.

I think, I will buy it next week…

I suspect that a great deal of patience and practice is needed to get the best out of it, I wish you luck and cooperative wildlife!

On some Canon DSLR's you can install Magic lantern (its free). It has a motion detect setting. It can be set for exposure differences or frame differences. It claims the response time is 2-300ms and is fast enough to catch lightning.
