British Breeding Bird List (1 Viewer)

Lots of birds visit Britain every year but how many actual British breeding birds are on your lists?

I haven't tallied my own up yet but would be interested to know if anyone has seen over 200 or more British breeding birds. Also what is the latest count on birds that breed in Britain. May be an interesting year list to go for.

do you mean residents? or do you include summer visitors too like hirundines? And I suppose you list wouldn't include birds like redwing or whooper swan? What about birds with only a few breeding pairs such as purple sandpiper that are a lot more common in the winter? and do breeding vagrants such as the black-winged stilts at Martin Mere this year count?

I am sorry if it sounds confusing but what I mean is any bird that breeds in Britain on a regular basis, including summer visitors etc. What I don't mean is that you actually have to see the bird when it is breeding, or find it's nest, it could be any time of the year. I hope this clears it up.

For some daft reason I noticed a few years ago that the number of species recorded in the annual Rare Breeding Birds Panel report for Britain was always 200 +- 2, every year. (Not always the same 200, of course, but always 200.)
Weird or what ?

Looks like someone's already giving the breeding birds year list a go. They're having a good shot at it too:

Some birds don't make nests. Could you tick Sandwich Tern?

Perhaps not with twigs and up a tree, but Sandwich Tern does make a nest, a scrape lined with pebbles and shells, etc. For complete none nest-builder, I suppose we could go Guillemot (and Cuckoo!)
