Countability question (1 Viewer)

I'm a Colorado birder who recently visited San Diego. At Murray Lakes park, I saw a Nutmeg Mannikin, which does appear in the NatGeo guide (listed as established in L.A.), but I don't see it on the AOU checklist.

Is the Mannikin accepted as a countable wild bird in California, or does it wallow in pet-store escapee status?

Thanks,

Dave in Denver

No, Nutmeg Mannikin is not yet countable in California. They have established themselves in several places in California, but not yet for a long enough time. It is fully expected that in due time it will become countable, in which case you will have to come back to get that tick.
