New Leica Factory (1 Viewer)

Does this mean that Leica will finally be making a successor to the Ultravid or is that also still virtual? ;)

<B>

Good question Brock.

I think all this painting and decorating the new place has twisted their thinking. They have had loads of paint left over and are painting all the Ultravids in different colors and calling them Colorline.

Those crazy, hilarious Leica-guys :-O

The factory looks very nice, but all I see is work desks, and no machinery
at all, so I suppose they don't want to show how the components are made.

Interesting also, there is a "casino". I'm not sure what that is for.

Hi Jerry

Yes the lack of detail on the manufacturing was disappointing although they do refer to the camera and sports optics assembly areas and R&D areas in the diagrams.

Glad you spotted the casino too. I thought I had imagined it :smoke:

Lee, come on.....
I know we are talking about the Wetzlar disease8-P, but there is a new kid on the block and her name is........... Leica:cat:

If I am correctly informed yesterday, the casino is the place where all the bins can be "tested" by the visitors.

Jan

Thanks, that seems to be a good answer. I suppose there are
different interpretations of casino, and in Europe, now I am thinking
of Monte Carlo, and that means gambling.

Do you sell Leica, and what do you see coming from them ?

Jerry

The film says the casino is for feeding the staff and visitors, as well as for informal discussions. Nothing about testing various optics, although they helpfully note that there is a viewing platform above the welcoming hall, suitable for testing binoculars and for views of Wetzlar.

Jerry,

Yes we have all the models of them.

In march the UV HD 32 and 42 will come in a limited edition in the color English Racing Green (worldwide 100 pieces for the 32 and 200 for the 42) and allready available the colorline (6 colors) in UV 20 and 25.

These are in fact old wine in new bags.

I had good hope that the new UV would come in a Perger model (some rumors boiled up from the old factory), but it seems the weight is a problem.
Fact is: Leica has to do something because the way Zeiss and Swarovski are launching new models, it leaves Leica "in the dark".

In other words; I have no clue of any REAL new model coming from Leica.

OK it wasn't much of a joke but over here and in the States casinos are for gambling.

Seems in Euroland a casino is a cafeteria, at least some of the time..

Lee,

Well, taken the architecture in consideration it looks like a roulette table and with all the colors Leica gives their bins, you never know what a brand does to survive...;)

Jan

I'm relieved to see that Brock survived that video.
I would have thought the rolling ball in those panoramic sweeps of the interior would have given him palpitations!
