Birds of the World - help with book please (1 Viewer)

My interest in birds has, until very recently, been confined to those of Britain and Ireland. I have quite a collection of books on British birds but would like to extend my knowledge and awareness of birds of the world, in particular those under threat. Can anyone recommend a good book that would make an appropriate starting point?

Smithsonina books has a fairly good 600 bird survey:

Making it look like a field guide is a bit silly, but it is readable and it does give a map of where the bird lives.

I think I have this, has some errors

Then there are a few encyclopedias.

I buy field guides used, used bokstores and annual tent sales. I have some Africa, India and S AMerica.
