Litter by duck nest - help (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone , New to the forum and know nothing about birds haha. I was walking home past a large lake near my house and saw a large amount of litter around a ducks nest. I've attached a photo , you can see the nest in the top right. I was going to get some sort of net and fish the litter out , but I am worried it will disturb the nest as there are very young ducklings in there! Should I wait untill they leave the nest? Not sure if its anyones job to clean the lake up but the litter looks quite old so I assume not! Many thanks to anyone who can help and apologies if I posted this in the wrong section ! :) Litter duck.jpg

A sad indictment on humans :-C Yep, best to wait a week or two until the young have moved off before clearing up the litter.

The birds are actually Coots, not ducks. Coots keep their chicks in the nest for a few days after hatching, whereas ducklings leave the nest as soon as they're hatched :t:
