A local mp has been running a campaign recently in parliament requesting that The UK ivory market is shut down. This was a promise in the 2010 and 2015 Conservative manifesto. Introducing such legislation represents one of the Simplest and most effective ways to prevent the slaughter of elephants for their ivory.

The scale of the problem is huge, with it being estimated that one elephant is currently killed every 15 minutes. It is estimated that there are now only 352,271 savanna elephants left, with approximately 120,000 elephants having been illegally killed since the first Conservative manifesto commitment was Made in 2010 to close the domestic ivory market.

Although only 8% of the public are aware of how there is a legal ivory market in the UK, 85% of British people believe that the buying and selling of ivory should be banned.

On 21st September 2016, the UK announced a ban on the sale of `worked` ivory produced after 1947, with works before that date being considered antiques. Whilst the move was commendable, creating a distinction between pre and post 1947 pieces of ivory is not only arbitrary, it also fuels the slaughter of elephants. Banning the UK ivory market would also take money out of the hands of criminal organisations, starving them and their illicit efforts of funds. The only ivory of value is the ivory found on a live elephant.

If you too feel strongly about this issue, you can sign this petition and also encourage your friends to sign it to help prevent the slaughter and potential extinction of these creatures. The deadline for signing the petition is 27th of February 2017....... The link is below

I seen a video on this, and it talks about the elephants growing smaller and smaller tusk to keep from getting the attention of poachers, is that just hearsay? My favorite animal would have to say is the elephant, I think of them is very special! However I did go out of my way to watch the birthing Giraffe April, finally has her third baby.
