We met atypic singing River Warbler (Loc flu) 3 years ago here in E Finland.
Song resembled a lot to song of Lanceolated Warbler (Loc lan).
Because the bird was so hiding,
we have to catch it and check the species.
Funny thing was that bird's song improved after the ringing !
The bird started to sing more typical song !

Seem / heard precious few normal River Warblers!

Had something similar here with a Chiffchaff that was imitating an Iberian Chiffchaff - after ringing, it did normal Chiff song much more.

Did you use a tape lure to trap it? Maybe that might 'remind' it what it is 'supposed' to sing like.

Not at first, but because bird sang so like Lanceolated, we used dummy of Lanceolated. The bird started to singing when we used dummy and the bird activated to try to meet this singing 'dummy'. But when we tried to 'hunt' it to the net, it flied to the cornfield. I met a real Lanceolated about one week later after this case.

Strangely enough, when we using dummy to try catch them, these three species (Lanceolated, Grasshopper and River Warbler) behaviour turn off each other !
Lanceolated is most 'snappish / nimble' to react dummy. It is immediately in the net. River only circulate dummy and it is quite difficult to catch by net. Grasshopper approaching step by step to dummy or fly through the small bird net. Grasshooper is

Sorry, post run away...
Grasshopper has 'fluent' body form.

I have heard that our oddly singing river was not the first case in Finland.

We have also one case, where Garden Warbler (Syl bor) sang so oddly in S Finland.
Birder(s), which found the bird, suppose that bird is probably rare Olivaceous Warbler
or so. The song sounded very peculiar. Because that singer hid so high in the trees, birders did not get so good visual perception from the bird. Finally some ringers catched and ringed bird.
