Yep, Great Spot.
In Bulgaria you need to be at fairly low altitude, not in the mountains, to see Middle Spot.

It's a male Greater Spotted Woodpecker. Females don't have any red on the head.

But that's completely black, no red there!
On a more serious note, wouldn't the red be already at least slightly visible from this angle? Seem hard to judge ...

No, the red of the nape is not visible from this angle (being a taxidermist I ought to know
