MIddle Spotted Woodpecker - Bulgaria (1 Viewer)

Photographed in Bulgarian Mountains November this year. Would like confirmation of Middle Spotted? also am puzzled by the 'lump' over the beak. Any help would be appreciated.

Definitely not. Middle spotted is streaked on the underside, has a red cap in both sexes and different facial pattern. This looks like perfectly feasible Great Spotted (female).

It's a male Greater Spotted Woodpecker. Females don't have any red on the head.
 
Turn the monitor round and look from the other side :t:

But that's completely black, no red there!

On a more serious note, wouldn't the red be already at least slightly visible from this angle? Seem hard to judge ...

No, the red of the nape is not visible from this angle (being a taxidermist I ought to know;))
