Here´s some additional details on the two eponyms vassali and gabriellae ...
vassali as in:
• White-cheeked Laughingthrush (Ianthocincla) Garrulax vassali OGILVIE-GRANT 1906 (here) as "Dryonastes vassali":
His British wife Gabrielle Maud Vassal née Candler (1880–1959), whom he married in 1903, is far more famous, as a pioneer photographer. She wrote the book 'On and Off Duty in Annam' (1910), here, featuring a number of unique photos from Vietnam in 1904-1907, which were taken during their three-year stay in that country. And quite a few other (less known) books. Later on she was part of the French Resistance during WW2.
Mrs. Vassal is herself commemorated in:
gabriellae as in:
• the invalid "Cissa gabriellæ" OGILVIE-GRANT 1906 (same Paper as above, p.12) [synonym of Cissa hypoleuca SALVADORI & GIGLIOLI 1885]
• the debated, valid or invalid; subspecies "Buccanodon duchaillui gabriellæ" BANNERMAN 1924 " (here) [most often considered a synonym of Buccanodon duchaillui CASSIN 1855]
... but she managed to hang on to a monkey; the (little less debated) Yellow-cheeked Gibbon Nomascus gabriellae THOMAS 1909 (here) as "Hylobates gabriellæ"

= the French military doctor Joseph Vassal (1867–1957), whose full name was Joseph Marguerite Jean Vassal, resident in French Indochina 1904–1914, then off to French Equatorial Africa in the 1920's ... and then back to France ... and so on.
