Dungeness RSPB Reserve (1 Viewer)

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed my first visit to Dungeness yeterday, in the company of my evening class. Species seen are too numerous to list and as someone who has only been birdwatching for about 3 years, I wasn't as good at identification as some of the 20 years plus veterans.

However, some of the highlights were: dozens of Lapwings, 5 Golden Plovers, a pair of Gadwall, mute Swans, Pintail Ducks, Shelduck, Shovelers, Cormorants - all on the gravel pits; Little Gull, Common Tern, Gannets, Herring Gulls and a Kestrel on the ground, feeding on prey - all viewed from the beach (was not very good at telling one Gull from another); Black Redstart, Goldfinches, Linnets, Great Spotted Woodpecker - all viewed away from the water.

Other people said they saw/heard: Bearded Tit, Whimbrel, Chiff Chaff.

And the weather was kind - bright and sunny, though the reflection on the water made identification a bit difficult. Even the east wind on the beach was warm!

I missed the Black Redstart and the Little Gull but did see a Water Pipit (I think), plus a Baird's Sandpiper, a Merlin and a Red-crested Pochard, thanks to John Cantello. I also must have seen you. It was a good day.

I was the "bird" in the green coat and was with my husband (brown fleece). Both with glasses. No other distinguishing features, I think! See you on Thursday, I hope. I'm the new girl on the block.
