Osprey Northumberland

Seen Osprey over Sweethope Lough in Northumberland on Friday morning with something attached to its right wing which was quite small but also very visible through my bino's....I am assuming this could only be one thing really a transmitter ????

Was wondering if anyone knows how many birds are fitted with these transmitters and if it was one of the kielder pair or a passing bird..??

Any thoughts............................

Have a look here:

You'll see in the second image, an osprey wearing a transmitter. It's like a small rucksack/harness, but clearly not worn on the wing. Could it have been a wing tag?

Kielder is not far away, as the osprey flies, so we should perhaps have our binoculars at the ready if we're in that area!

there are a few Ospreys nesting in Northumberland, not just Kielder but I don't think any are tagged or have a transmitter

There are not many birds fitted with satellite transmitters and those that are have them fitted to their backs.

The only birds that I have seen with things fitted to wings are kites and white tailed eagles. See red kite tags

I looked at their page from the Welsh Red Kite Trust.

They are wrong in attributing our Home PINK tag colour to Northumberland.
We are based in Gateshead's Derwent Valley.
