Carrion Crow chasing a Woodcock (1 Viewer)

This afternoon at Bursdon Moor, North Devon we saw what we thought must be a raptor chasing it's prey but in fact it was a Carrion Crow chasing a Woodcock. The Woodcock tried to out fly the Crow but with the Crow hot on it's tail the Woodcock suddenly dropped in to the long dry grass. The Crow also dropped in to the grass and with both birds out of sight we did not find out what the outcome was.
I can't recall ever seeing a Crow chase a bird as large as a Woodcock like that before, presumably at this time of the year it must have been after a meal. Roger
