Wanted: Flight shots of Ruppell's Vulture (1 Viewer)

Hi all

I am looking for flight photos of Ruppell's Griffon Vulture for me to be able to look at one or two things regarding their identification and to satisfy my own curiosity. They are only for my personal use and will not feature in any article or website unless specifically asked for at a much later date. I have searched the web and found one or two images, particularly one on 'Rare birds in Spain' by Dick Forsman but not much else.

So I would be grateful for anything or even links to other websites I may not have found showing these birds.

You either pm me or contact me through my website shown below.

Thank you in advance, regards Jules

You might also look up some Dutch websites of contributors to the photo board on the Dutch Birding website, as I have seen good photos of an recent escaped bird, though I can't remember where.

Edit: The bird in question was at Reeuwijk in April 2004. So far I've only found perched shots.

Cheers

Hi Jules

You could send a pm to BF member mike davidson. He lives in Nairobi, so if he hasn't already got any photos, he might be able to go out and take some, showing exactly what you want to see.

Jules

sent you a PM with someone who could help (I was watching him take pictures of them on the Programa Migres last year). He's a great photographer but never answers my emails so good luck....

Ruppells Vulture

Hi Julian

Maybe you can help me. Where we are in the mountains we see Griffon Vultures every day, at the moment 7 - 9 over the village. But I took a shot of what was definitely not a Griffon and the nearest I can get is a Ruppells.

I will send you pics, if I may for you to have a look.

Thanks

Alistair

Hi Jules,
You could try Dick Forsman's site at www.dickforsman.com. I seem to remember seeing some excellent Rüppell's images there that he took in southern Spain during the 2005 autumn migration.
Best regards

Thanks Greg
I had already found this excellent website and it has the best photos of young Ruppell's Vulture and most useful.

BTW, the eagle I messaged you about last year was accepted as a sub-adult Spanish Imperial.

Ruppells Vulture

Hi Julian
I was advised to send the picture to the specialists at The Natural History Museum of Crete, who were able to analyse my poor picture and they have decided that it is a Ruppells Vulture, probably escaped from captivity and should stay in the area with the Griffons. I'll be ready the next time with some better shots - hopefully.

Thank you for your help.

Excellent news, I assume there must be one or two escape birds in the area?.
Do you think you could send me the photo again, as I inadvertantly deleted your e-mail without sving the photo to my file, and if you do get some more please would pass them on.
Regards Jules
