Hi,:-O can anyone reccomend places to bird watch within walking distance of The Senegambia also a reputable guide who is trustworthy and reasonable. I feel uneasy about emailing guides as I got a virus on my computer after emailing guides in Tobago and Kenya. What birds can we expect to see in the grounds of our hotel.
Thanks all

Hi micky1,
We have been to The Gambia six times and have stayed at the Senegambia quite a few times.
Birds around the gardens are, Robin Chats, Starlings, Doves. Rollers, Black Kites overhead and some resting on trees, Yellow-crowned Gonolek and of course the 11am feeding of Vultures and possibly sometimes raptors, and possibly a Pearl Spotted Owlet.
A birdguide: we always have Yaya Barry, who will pick you up in a morning and drop you off at your hotel.
His mobile number is: 002209811118.
We have recommended him to many people and none of them have been disappointed.
I can send you his email address..if you so wish.
Cheers, Donald

Walk out of your hotel and turn left. In a few minutes time you have Bilijo Monkey reserve on your left. Guides are available at the entrance.
Walk out of your hotel and turn right and in about 20-25 minutes you will meet the point were Kotu Creek meets the sea. Access to Kotu Village is through any of the hotels or the craft market which is beyond the river in about 2-300m. The area around Kotu bridge is excellent . on your way back go over the bridge, take the first turn on your right and keep on going. You will find the Casino Cycle track which eventually comes out at a road, Turn right and you drop back on to the beach at Solomons Beach Bar.
Here's my recent trip report to give you an idea of what you might see locally.

A taxi to Tanji is recommended. Should cost about 600 dalasai. Watch the guides, they will try and hit you for a big score !!
Enjoy, cheers Dave
