A really rare bird called the Himalayan quail lives in the Himalayan Mountain range. Feared to be extict, it is a short flier and is found in the western Himalayan ranges from 2500m to 2500m.

I am doing a detailed study about it. More info will certainly be acknowledged.

In Nainital this year I saw a camping named "Mountain Quail Camp". Sounded attractive. I hope somebody will finally make a good search and discover it!

I believe that one of the last known sites was near Dhera Dun. The Wildlife Instute of India is based there, so they may have some info.

BTW, I was in India and we chatted about Himalayan Quail. There are apparently hundreds of similar valleys where no ornithologist goes. Who knows - maybe hundreds of quail live happily somewhere, noticed by no-one except local people.

Good luck in finding it! :)
