Hello Everybody,

I have joined the forum to post about the very large flocks of Starlings (over 1,000 birds gathering in Leylandi Trees in central Bempton near Flamborough near the Parish Church and in gardens behing High Street.
I have never seen such huge flocks which arrive at Dusk each night at present.

They are quite threatening when you go out to the sheds etc.

IT IS LIKE HITCHCOCKS -THE BIRDS !!!!

HAS ANYONE ELSE WITH BIRD WATCHING INTERESTS IN THIS AREA OF THE FLAMBOROUGH HEADLAND NOTICED THIS PHENONEMON !!?

Welcome to BF from a fellow tyke. The birds in Bemptom are roosting in the area not nesting and this is typical of the species. Sometimes they can be found in groups of several millio and perfrom spectaculalrly.

As you have seen for yourself ti is amazing so many thanks for sharing!

Hi BB,

Welcome to Birdforum.

Not only does Bempton have its Sea birds it also has a Starling roost on the go. It must be a wonderful sight [and a bit noisy). This morning when I was topping our feeders up we had about 200+ Starlings go past and that was great.

I envy you. I remember seeing huge flocks of wintering starlings in Dublin as a kid, they used to darken the sky as they flew over doing formation aerobatics, usually in the evening before settling down to roost. Must´ve been a million at a time. Haven´t seen anything like it for 25 years. The biggest flock I´d see nowadays would be about 500 birds, I think.
