Here it is with snow flurries in the forecast and there are still hummingbirds about. There seem to be 3 males at various stages of maturity. I think the oldest is one who wintered here last year as he is calm when I appear in the yard. And one female, so far.
They have come in to feed on the Winter Jasmine for the past few years and the mini fuchsia "Candy Cane" which I leave out for a long time before bringing in for winter. And they also like the Rosemary which starts blooming in December.
One might think there'd be no nectar in flowers so cold but they do bloom when it's cold out, so....
Last winter when it snowed I started putting out a sugar water feeder and had three Annas return everyday. They left about when the Rufous arrived and the Annas returned in August with a juvenile male singing in the yard most of the time.
A webcam set up near the feeder took the 1st, dated photo and the other is an immature himmy Sept 25th/11. He is looking more mature now, having lost all the white facial feathers for red.
