Entry level 8x56 advice (1 Viewer)

+1 for the Savannah but be carefull, there's a standard model and another with ED glass. http://www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Barr & Stroud8x56SavannahED-60.htm

I tried the ED one and find them good (but heavy) perhaps on par with the Prostalk ED (no more in production). Over the budget but not a lot :194£ - (Ebay n° :351121111734 )

Thanks, Dadra, I think the B&S had been considered. They do fit the 'compact' requirement though, at least in comparison to the old Dialyt 'milk bottles' !

ED glass at this level is a real lottery ... did we see that last year when you had a Vanguard Spirit 8x42 ED which you didn't like at all and I had one which I quite liked ?

Good to hear that you've found ED glass that you like under £200.00.

Have you looked at the Barr & Stroud Savannah 8x56, I know their other models are quite good in the one's I've tried, and are available for £120 from scopesnskies.

They seem to get a good write up here http://www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Barr & Stroud8x56Savannah-54.htm

Appreciate that, Les, B&S have quite a range, although perhaps a bit reduced from the last time I looked. With so many I guess it's inevitable that there would be a fair amount of batch variation which I think my chum was trying to avoid by looking for a single line, even if just a rebadge. At least the intention was there.

The one thing about mass product overviewers, like BBR, that survive on advertising revenue, is that you never get a critical view, you have to admire that !

It has been suggested that I just loan out my NM5 8x56 and buy myself an SLC and if I do that I'll be asking Gijs to cherry pick me one ... :t:

Meanwhile with 'budget-creep' inevitable, a look at the Danubia Wildview 8x56 is probably on the cards, it's a clone of the Hawke Prostalk ED 8x56, comparatively inexpensive, iro £170.00, and still available :

You 're right ! ED glass in this level of price is a lottery (thanks to the QC |:S| ).

+1 for the SV :king:

I have tried these and the 8x56 ED. I really liked them both.

Yes, I'm finding more use for my 56s with dusk falling quickly in the afternoon. Did you keep either of those ?

Poland ??? I can't find anything that doesn't have a camouflage dress code. David

Poland. Delta Optical, they've had a string of various Chinese and Japanese manufactured Porros and roofs, and Polish design in the optical construction and cosmetic appearance of some of the more recent models.

Their current line up can be found here : http://en.deltaoptical.eu/products/closer-to-the-target/binoculars202/, with retailers aplently in Poland, and one or two in Austria.

For low lighters looking for further choices this is just an excuse to introduce another inexpensive 8x56 to this thread, the Delta Optical Titanium ROH 8x56 :

http://en.deltaoptical.eu/products/closer-to-the-target/binoculars202/titanium252/delta-optical-titanium-8x56-roh-en/, which can be found on the web for about £ 185.00 + shipping, or for a bit more over the counter.

Not so heavy weighing in at under 1000g.
