Hi all,
I am confused by this one from Tirimbina (Caribbean lowland west of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí). At the time I felt it ought to be a Beardless Tyrannulet, but they are out of range. I am therefore leaning Elaenia, but which one? It was sitting less than a foot of the ground at the base of a bush for some minutes. I have several other pictures.

thanks
Niels

Thanks Eduardo,
You are probably right. My reason to doubt this was two-fold:
1 The yellow on the underside is strongest in the lower breast with the belly itself almost white; I will try to attach another photo that shows this even more.
2 I had the feeling at the time that the bill looked more like the one on the Beardless-Tyrannulets, lower mandible pink almost entirely with only a small black tip. I cannot find a picture showing the bill well from the side, it is hidden behind the branch on most photos I have.

Any comments?

thanks
Niels

The yellow on the underparts is quite variable in Y-b Elaenia, some are much brighter than others. The bill looks about right, with a pale based lower mandible. Face design and longish tail match better the elaenia too.
