Lecia APO 62 Scope Price difference (1 Viewer)

In Hong Kong we can usually purchase all types of optical equipment much cheaper than in the UK because there is no VAT and also we can get on average about an extra 10% off. Therefore most items are about 25% cheaper. However I have recently been investigating purchasing a Leica 62 APO but for some unknown reason the price being quoted at a number of outlets is over 100 UK pounds more expensive that in the UK. Does anyone have an explanation. Have they produced a new model but calling the same.

Leica brought out a rubber armoured version of the 62mm which is also more expensive in the U.K, than the old model. Might this be the case?

It appears to be similar in the U.S i.e that Japanese optics Nikon etc are significantly cheaper, though the German stuff is usually around the same price (though often dearer). Don't know the reason why, perhaps it's to keep the prices globally the same thus preventing grey imports?
