Went down to the the area across from Mull yesterday for a day's birding and what a day we had.Saw over 50 species ,The best part of the day was getting out in a mates boat for a couple of hours ,first bird we saw was an adult BT Diver about 20 feet away, quickly followed by loads of Guillemots with young,a few Max Shearwaters a pom Skua and loads of Arctic Terns, kittiwakes, and the usual Gulls ,
The first was a Golden Eagle at distance above the hills,we watched it for about ten minutes as it thermaled higher and higher till it went out of site behind the hills. We then cruised down the Loch a bit till an adult White Tailed Sea Eagle was spotted sitting close to the shore, afew fish were thrown overboard to get the gulls interested, that did'nt take long and after afew moments not one but two SeaEagles took to the air and headed out into the loch, one came staight for the larger fish and we watched as it grabbed the fish from the surface and carried it back to the loch side to eat,the other Eagle was being mobbed by Gulls and Terns till it gave up and also flew back to the other Eagle feeding before trying again and this time gettig luckier and getting a free meal ,What a sight it was it only lasted probably less than 5 minutes .Wont foget it in a hurry i can tell you.

Sounds Bril Lenny.

Coming up to Mull myself in mid-Nov. Do you know it well and can you recommend any good spots for maximum raptor spotting?
