Took this on the way back from Lisvane reservoir this afternoon. Is it a Partridge... if so, what type? Is it a Red Legged Partridge...?

Is this a common sighting in Glamorgan...?

Yes RLP.

Probably not naturally common in Glamorgan. UK natural distribution is reckoned to be about as far north as the Humber, but they prefer arable country so east coast is much more favourable for partridge than the west. I wouldn't be surprised if their distribution only extended as far as Severn / Welsh marches.

Very popular as release birds for shooting. Shoots that release may deal in 100s or even 1000s. Even in Glamorgan a release seems the most likely origin of this bird.

Mike.

I believe 10,000 were released on an upper Deeside estate (no, not Balmoral) around 2005. We're still tripping over them even now.
