Redpoll I.D Ontario, Canada (1 Viewer)

Hi all,

I identified a Hoary Redpoll in my yard in flight showing the distinctive white rump. I left for school with the Feeder Cam on and was curious if I had caught him or not. Granted they are a bit more difficult to I.D when perched!

Click "All Sizes" for best view. The photos from the top of the white line are candidates, they are from two separate visits.

The bottom are just Common redpolls that can be used as a comparison.

Thanks in Advance,
Lev Frid

Its ben a while since I have seen a Hoary Redpoll, but the bill on all of these looks the same--as in Common. Don't see any real "frosting" to the plumage either.

A classic male would have little streaking below. Females usually show some fine streaking. Yeah, the bill is what put me off I.D'ing the bird as a Hoary from the start.
