Bird pics for paintings? (1 Viewer)

Hi All - I'm wanting to take bird pics to use as painting references: I use a Sony 8.1 mps compact at present but it's not really good enough (also have an old Panasonic FZ30 which has poor image quality compared). I don't want to spend lots of ££s on the DSLR+400mm prime lens route which seems to be generally favoured or to have to lug around such a hefty piece of kit. Has anyone assessed the 4/3 lens compacts such as Panasonic G1 or GF1 yet ?

Hey Dave!

Welcome to Birdforum! I am sure you will get plenty of good advice here. I hope you enjoy your visits to the forum.

Hi Dave and welcome on behalf of the Staff and Moderators

I'm sure we will enjoy having you here.

You could also try doing a search of the Gallery to see if anyone is using that equipment.

Ah, the same way I got into birdwatching - taking pics for paintings. If you've got the patience, digiscoping's one way to go.
