Bushnell Legend Porro 8x42 problem (1 Viewer)

I just bought a Bushnell porro 8x42 model from Adorama. It was sent to my son. As he checked it, he said he can't turn the focussing wheel more that about 45 degrees. Thus he can't get a sharp picture. Is that a common fault, or is he overlooking something? Any advice?

The 8x42's should turn about 1-1/2 turns or 3 to 4 spins of the wheel depending on how you grip it. The Legend porro wheel is a little on the stiff side to turn because it is waterproof, and more so new out of the box. Have him turn it with two fingers back and forth to see if it will loosen up. When mine have been sitting for awhile they are stiff getting started, but then loosen up quickly.

If not, then probably defective

Thanks for this most helpful information. My son did follow your advice, and everything is just fine now. The binoculars may have been a bit stiffer due to the temperatures before delivery. At least, things went much smoother today.
