Red-bellied woodpecker? (1 Viewer)

I saw a lot of woodpeckers when I was shooting in the woods today, but this one has me curious. I assumed it was a red-bellied woodpecker when I was shooting it, but it looked a bit odd. All the other red-bellied woodpeckers I've shot are white underneath, and both my field guides describe the red-bellied as white underneath. This one's definitely gray.

Can anyone enlighten me about this bird?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that is a Red-Bellied. I know what you mean about the grayness...I'm sure someone will be along soon who can help you there! |=)|

The gray does have me baffled. Do juvenile red-bellied woodpeckers have gray? Can't find anything that says yay or nay on that.

I'll go ahead and post this one with the other bird photos on my on-line gallery -- http://www.pbase.com/hemlepp -- sometime in the next few days and see if anyone questions it.

Thanks for the input.

Pat
