oystershell grit - advice please (1 Viewer)

Hi Finchy, maybe this will help you,I have an aviary built onto the side of the cottage containing Zebras, Java Sparrows, Bengalese Finches, Diamond Doves, and two Cockatiels. Now the mortar in the stonework is made up of the old fashion mix of cement, blackrock sand, and a measure of the ash left over from fires. Whilst I always give them crushed oyster shell and grit supplement, those little things have nibbled a fair amount of mortar out of the joints. I have had no problems with the birds health and there has been no problem with any of the egg shells or chicks that have hatched. So i think that even if you didnt give them any they will manage quite alright without it, but its nice to know you are thinking of them.

Take care

I bought some Oystershell grit and have been using it since Friday. It is very fine stuff. I have scattered some on the ground and bird table and mixed it in with seed. The trouble is that in the storage bins, all the Oystershell Grit ends up at the bottom!
