Please Help with Erased Video Files (1 Viewer)

I accidentally erased a few videos from an SD card and have been trying to recover the material with little success..This were shown in my tablet as HDV.MP4 files...Recovering from the SD card with a program called Recuva was pretty easy, The problem is that the recovered material can not be changed back to the original mp4 format,and the AVI files i have now are impossible to play...Have any of You got the same problem,and what would be a sucessful course of action to recover the material?
