The daily animal (1 Viewer)

It took three years only because I visited it once or twice a year :) it probably took less than 20 "contact hours" with the brushes in total.
It sounds like a good idea to step up the challenge into a more detailed piece. It would be doable as long as I don't spend too much time in the planning stage.
On the other hand I like the format of this daily sketch project. I'm learning a lot and getting more confident because of the "instant gratification" nature of it (most of the time anyway). But yeah, I shall take advantage of the new confidence and aim for something better... Soon.
The oil pastel took me a day (six hours or so, spread over a Saturday) ; the watercolour took about two hours

246 to 250:

Dragonfly; Lapwing; Wagtail; Red-crested pochard; Blue-headed quail dove

This is a wonderful project and thanks for sharing it! It will yield great dividends in your work - already has, no doubt. I've also been away from drawing birds for a couple years due primarily to some joint replacements surgeries and am 'back in the game.' My main sketching project is to do a sketch of each 'year bird' I find this year. Seems like that is a lot to do but it certainly won't be 365 (or this year 366!) unless I decide to really focus on a big year. I've been enjoying it greatly, as you clearly are as well. Keep at it!

Thanks John!

Yes, I've certainly enjoyed this little project. Even if I'm not always happy with the sketches I learn from each one of them. I look forwards to seeing your sketches. And good luck with the big year!

256-260:

Junglefowl; Mallard; Monarch butterfly; Vulture; Stilt

I'm slowly getting used to those markers

Wow. Daily drawing is a great discipline to aspire to; your work has improved a lot in a very short time! Have you ever considered doing the same animal every day for a week, but in different poses? Or is it more fun/challenging to try completely different subjects as you're already doing?

Best wishes,

Laura

@Natalie: Thank you! :)

@Laura: Thank you! That's a good idea. I'd need to find the right subjects to do that... maybe the stuffed animals at the museum would be a good start.
On the other hand it's also good to use different subjects; it makes me realise how little I know about animals and how much I still need to learn. Thanks again. I hope I'll continue to improve :)

And now today's batch:

261-265: Ass; dipper; bears; wolverine; dunlin

Fantastic work! All of it! I love how you captured the character of the subjects in just a few strokes in your cartoons and your more natural style is excellent as well!B :)
