We took our inflatable boat on river Beibrza in Poland, allowing us to get close to many nice birds. Most of the smaller vaders were clearly ruffs (in mating plumage, sometimes displaying the collars), with some dunlins and a couple of Godwits.
But there are some birds that are "not quite ruffs", or are they?
The first bird is even probalby some sandpiper (green? marsh? wood?), the seocnd one looks very pale (could it be buff-breasted sandpiper?) the third is not very clear and the fourth is probably just a ruff?
If someone is interested in Ruffs, we have an album of the best pictures, but there is probably not much to ID, it is just to put these birds in persepective.
As a side remark: Biebrza is amazing!
