Blackbirds/Sparrows (1 Viewer)

For over 20 years, we didn't see a single House Sparrow in our garden. Over the last couple of years we have gone from 2 to a flock of about 20. My query is about the strange behavior between them and the Blackbirds. Some sparrows fly in just behind the Blackbirds. When the Blackbirds bathe, the Sparrows perch around the bath like little hand maidens - some even get in with them! At first the Blackbirds were a bit shirty with the Sparrows, but now, like us, they seem to have accepted them.
Cannot find any details on line about this sort of behavior - has anyone else seen this type of thing?
