EDG Vibration Reduction Scope (1 Viewer)

My opinions based on brief testing of this new scope :

The VR works very well and much better than the Nikon VR binocular. I tested it on wooden plank and while focusing, the image viewed through P7000 LCD did not show any shaking movement :king:

No price announcement yet ...

After the 20th October, the FT1 mount for Nikon V1 and J1 mirrorless would be available including price. Will let everyone knows once I got this in my hand for further testing

Jason, I see from the pic Tee is using the J1 camera on the Nikon swing-out adapter. Can you tell us more about that? Does the J1 work with the FSA L2?

No FT1 mount available that time Rick only after the 20th Tee told me so could not test it with my FSA-L2.

On my 25LER eyepiece the vignetting disappeared from 24mm using the 10-300mm lens. Same goes to DS30x eyepiece for ED82. The camera were really fast especially on the 10fps. I like the 400fps motion video which is useful in capturing bird's behavior such as preening, bathing etc.

I was thinking of buying P300 but after I tried the V1 and J1, hahaha I will replace my P7000 !

I forgot to copy the sample images taken that day hahaha because everyone was so busy and I will try again soon the V1 with my EDG

Jason - in your opinion, the V1 and J1 is better camera for digiscoping? Do you think it can combine well with the 82mm ED also? Can't wait for you to update on the compatibility :D

SeeToh,

I did handheld the J1 with 10-30mm lens on the DS30x eyepiece for ED82 and vignetting disappeared at 24mm :king: The 10mm lens was not suitable for digiscoping even on 25xLER eyepiece.

Will seriously consider the J1 in my next upgrade from P300o:D But there is currently no adaptor to attach the J1 to the 82mm right?

Currently, you will need a FSB-U1 universal bracket that can be configured to hold the J1 & kit lens to the eyepiece of your scope. Or get someone to fashion a suitable swing-out bracket. I doubt the lens threads are strong enough to support itself and the camera to a scope's eyepiece in the traditional digiscoping fashion.

Alternatively, wait for the FT1 adapter for the C-mount to F-mount and get a FSA-L1 adapter (i.e. the one that connects a Nikon DSLR to the scope). As my previous advice shows, this option lacks flexibility and leaves you with a F12.8 aperture to work with.

Having said that, I think the P300 would work better on your setup in every other way. The J1 with a telephoto zoom lens (e.g. the 30-110mm) would be better as a 'sidearm' of sorts to enable you to photograph birds that are either too close or too fast for your main digiscoping rig to catch up with. I used to use a Panasonic FZ30 in such a role to compliment my former setup of an ED78 & Coolpix 990.

Thanks Hor Kee for the advice. After using my setup, I am more inclined towards connecting the camera to a digiscoping eyepiece. Will wait until a credible adaptor is available before upgrading the camera :D There will be many bros out there that will be experiencing on the J1 setup. Let's wait what they go to say about ito:D

If I get the V1 with 10-30mm lens, I will ask for custom made adapter and connect it on the body of the V1 with the eyepiece rather than on the lens thread :)

I had a chance to use the EDG 85mm VR Fieldscope, although in a outdoor trade show setting at Nikon's Extreme Raptor Weekend in Hamburg, PA, this last weekend. Coincidentally, the winds were gusting over 30 mph on Saturday which proved to be a great test. IT WORKS FANTASTICALLY! There is a knob to lock the mechanism, but when you turn that to activate it there is just one more button with a green indicator light to confirm power on. I was told by internal Nikon folks that the mechanism takes care of 88% of the vibrations. The difference is noticeable when you turn that thing on.

At the already ridiculous price on the EDG spotters, I can't see Nikon being able to give away these VR spotters at premium prices. As a matter of fact, I'm told Nikon can hardly give away any EDG product. They're marketing dept is pathetic.
