Upton Warren (14 Viewers)

Thanks for your comments Mark

Birds today all a bit quiet apart from the breeders at least 4 Lapwings sitting oat the Flashes.

Passage: only a ringed plover and common sandpiper...it seems that at the moment the breeding species are dominating the scene.
Water rail heard calling from the car park.

Oh thanks John, that looks brilliant. I'll be down tomorrow on my way to work to have a personal shuftie.
Great effort by you and Stu - much appreciated guys.

Three quieter days at UW (it had to happen soon) has got me hankering after pastures anew. They're talking about westerly winds on the weather forecast I've just seen, so Cornwall or West Wales may be worthy of a visit to finish off my holiday. However, there's been a Sanderling at Grimley today so, whether I head off tomorrow or Thursday, I shall set the Satnav to go via Upton Warren. Just in case;)

Andy this is when the mice are separated from the men ...it's called staying power. Remember Upton wears you down and then kicks you in the teeth that's why we love it..I'll bring you some cheese instead of cake sunday:-O:-O

All the interesting waders (Wood Sand, Turnstone, Sanderling) seem to be on the gravel pits along the River Severn at the mo. Hopefully a few days of unsettled weather will point them in the direction of Upton.

A gloomy early morning check of the raft revealed that it was used by at least two BHGs to roost (this is a full un-cropped frame with a 400mm lens from the feeding station hide BTW). Stuart Croft and I had an adult summer plumage Dunlin on the Flashes too. Record shot to follow. A Common Tern was trying to catch its breakfast at the Sailing Pool when I returned to the car.
The third shot is again a full frame with the 400mm lens from the path behind the 1st Flash reed bed.

Not a problem Gert - its always a pleasure to document the year's sightings.

Decent numbers of Temminck's Stints passing through the country at the moment (including one at Chasewater and nine at a site in Lincs). Keep your eyes peeled for what appears to be a miniature Common Sand.
