Whooper Swan (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I was watching some Whooper Swans this morning, one of which had an orange band on its left leg. Is it possible to tell where this bird was ringed, just from this? No numbers/letters see.

Hi Gander

Orange rings on Whooper Swan seem to belong to a single, but international, project from WWT http://www.cr-birding.org/node/1969

One big colour band is almost invariably coded with something as well, though some combinations of font and background colour are ill-advised (black on blue!?). Most rings have the code printed twice, each at 180 degree/opposites to each other.

The three letters that link refers to may not have been visible as they can sometimes be around the ring from the side the observer can see, i.e. 90 degrees. Do look out for it again, and report it if you get the chance!
