"cage" web(?), Thailand (1 Viewer)

Myself and some friends went zip-lining in an area of seasonal monsoon forest yesterday in Chonburi, about a 1 hour drive SE of Bangkok.

Whilst c. 10 metres up a big tree we found this curious structure attached to the trunk. It was about 3cm long, a "cage-like" structure with an apparently dead whitish coloured spider (or shed skin) attached at the bottom with something (a pupae/prey item/egg sac???) suspended in the middle of the "cage".

Can anybody tell me what this is and what's going on?

Thanks,

Dave

Dear Salticus,

This does look like a very good match indeed, though I am a bit perplexed how the spider appears to be attached with two anchor lines to the "cage". Most intriguing...

Best,

Dave
