UK dragonflies and damselflies, 2015 (1 Viewer)

2 migrant hawkers and 4 common darters including a mating pair at Slimbridge on Sunday, around the newer of the two dragonfly ponds on the South Finger.

With the season slowly drawing to an end, I have started my 'photographing nymphs' winter project. The last few days have seen me catching a few Azure Damselfly, Broad bodied Chaser and Hairy Dragonfly nymphs which I have started to photograph in my indoor tank set up. Lots of photos on my website @ www.marcheathwildlifephotography.zenfolio.com. Click 'My Blog'. A few are posted below.

Common Darters at Strumpshaw Fen today. One was female, but the males just left her to bask. They were mainly sat on the picnic tables and reluctant to move. That's my latest ever female.

A hawker-shaped dragonfly was reported in Lancashire on 22 December. It's on the BDS sightings page with the finder saying it looked like a Migrant Hawker. On the description (slender and dark-coloured), another possibility may be Vagrant Emperor - given the amount of southerly winds recently that may even be the more likely option.
