Anagrams stike again! (1 Viewer)

Peter C.

...just zis guy, you know?
Inspired by birdman, I have decided to revive the old anagrams game. Unscramble the phrases to come up with the English common name (spelling follows Clements 6th edition, if it matters...) as per Avibase. Note that all the punctuation, including apostrophes and accents, is to be ignored. For example,

We're all pups, rev! = wereallpupsrev = Rüppell's Weaver
Since there is (I think) quite a range of difficulty in these anagrams, I have attempted to assign them a number of points reflecting the degree of difficulty (shown in parentheses after the anagram).

The answers are all loosely connected by a central idea, or theme, which can be expressed in a single word; five extra points to the first contestant to come up with the theme word (even if not all the solutions are in yet).
 1. Grovel, Pippin (1)
 2. Hey Pa! Lager! (1)
 3. Wistful Tern (2)
 4. Two grilled hens (2)
 5. I was crime nun (2)
 6. Hearse going ninety (3)
 7. Sarah shuts bin (3)
 8. Lo! Vicar goes on out (4)
 9. Me? A computed runt...(4)
 10. Darn grit! I hate jelly! (4)
 11. Porn plot: Let Eve curve (5)
 12. Risqué sadism? Log out! (5)
Let the games begin...

WOW |8.| your guys are gooooood....

I thought these would take a lot longer than this; I made them up, and even I forgot what some of them were, five minutes after I had written them down. Obviously, I'll have to work harder next time.

But yes, all correct so far (save Reuven's version of #10, ;)), and Trystan gets the +5 for getting the theme right.

Score:
Trystan 26 (including the bonus)
Reuven_M 2

Still three left to work on (7, 11, 12), including some of the more interesting ones...

Score now stands at:
Trystan 26
redeyedvireo 5
Andrew Whitehouse 3
Reuven_M 2

Here are a few more to consider:

13. Look! Gus runs far! (3)
14. Rob's bride ate clover (4)
15. Shh! We shrink panda... (3)
16. The lion lept Mr. Burr (5)
17. Deli yell: "Bring feta!" (5)

(Can't believe I didn't come across #16 before now!)

No-one seems to have done 12 yet, so I'll offer Melodious Grassquit (mind you, I didn't know there was such a thing ... ;) ).
