Red-winged blackbirds poisoned. (1 Viewer)

Here are two web sites that tell you about the bird poisonings: http://www.wildbirds.org/news/redwing.htm ; Also, http//:www.aphis.USda.gov/ws/nwrc/research/sunflowers.htm ;TheU.S.Department of Agriculture(USDA)proposal to kill by poison 2 million red-winged blackbirds for 3 years.Originally scheduled to start in Spring is delayed. It started last year, birds by the dozens lying dead everywhere. Insects more numerous, and more destructive,as there were not enough birds to keep the numbers down. You can e-mail Ann Veneman to complain, and ask for her help to stop this. Her e-mail address is : [email protected]

I wonder who's ill conceived idea this is? Probably some government scientist who has it in his interest to protect this crop no matter what for some corporate handout.

Presumebly whatever mono crop they are wanting to "protect" from the Red Winged Blackbirds has priority over everything else including peoples health.

Is this the future? God help us all.

AND THE JUSTIFICATION WAS?????

sorry for my language but this really pisses me off. What is the world comming to? The US government should really look at the bigger picture here. Not content with genocide in the middle east they are now targeting their own enviroment, has it not occurred to them that the massive numbers of the RWB might just be down to the factory farming methods they use!

Thankyou BBwatch, I'm going to investigate your sites and let Proact know.

It is bad enough to target one type of birds, but in so doing this they are killing many other species as well. Some are endengered, and rare birds that really need to be protected. Thanks everyone who will help out by e-mail, and investigating. Anyone who else wants to help out, do so as the birds need all the help they can get. Thank you BBW.

Almost missed this one - but now caught up

I've been busy recently - not least preparing for the 'mother of all partiers' for my 60th birthday on St David's Day.

Now I'm catching up and have posted this subject in a message in Proact Uopdates at

Hope it helps!

I wrote today. It's so hard to imagine, but we do this stuff all the time.

David Conlin's site, Proact, introduced me to the blackbird poisoning that's planned by my very own, dear government.

(David, we're the same age and happy birthday.)

Against the war!

I want to put in a word for our pigeon site that's small but is political. It's http://www.urbanwildlifesociety.org/pigeons/. We are North American, mostly, but it would be good to hear from people in other countries.

Hi Al, Welcome to the forum, good to hear from someone in NYC, only been there once (Oct 01), saw my first ever Northern Cardinal in Central Park.

Had a quick look at the web site, enjoyed the Pigeon Complaints Cartoon.

Keep the faith and dont let the "Stupid White Men" keep you down.
