This evening on the reserve. Made myself a task to finally find the Hobby on the east side. On walking to the hide, a juv Coal Tit was feeding in trees on the corner of the concrete road and east track.
Having heard that the Hobby had been perched earlier in the day around the hide, we headed there, to find the Hobby sat up in an oak close to the hide. Great views as it sat there throughout a prolonged rain shower. Some of the best views I have had of the species!

3 Tern chicks on the rafts and female Gadwall with 2 chicks below hide.

Flashes- 4 Med Gull this evening, the resident family + a very smart fresh juv (pictured). Waders well represented with 65 Lapwing, 41 Avocet, 9 LRP, 5 Green Sand, 4 Common Sand, 1 Dunlin, 1 Curlew

As we approach the end of July the monthly list currently stands on 88, well down on the totals from recent years. Potential additions in the next few days include (year ticks in bold);

Garganey, Shelduck, Pochard, Red Kite, Marsh Harrier, Pheasant, Ringed Plover, Wood Sand, Greenshank, Ruff, Yellow-legged Gull, Common Gull, Sandwich Tern, Black Tern, Barn Owl, Tawny Owl, Feral Pigeon, Yellow Wagtail, Garden Warbler, Willow Warbler, Nuthatch, Yellowhammer

And of course Great White Egret....

The Great White Egret takes the year list to 138, none of which are contentious as all have been photographed / multi-observed.

Species that would be required to take the list to the magical figure of 150 include Barnacle Goose, Garganey, Mandarin, Common Scoter, Goldeneye, Bittern, Merlin, Little Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Sanderling, Bar-tailed Godwit, Woodcock, Short-eared Owl, Rock Pipit, Tree Pipit, Whinchat, Mealy Redpoll
