Drinking mechanism in Pigeons and Doves (1 Viewer)

Someone told me that even though Feral Pigeons and all Doves possess the same 'sucking' drinking mechanism, the difference between them is that the water that enters the feral pigeon's beak does not fall back into the water source it is drinking from (not even a drop supposedly), whereas with collard doves etc some water always falls back into the water source whilst its drinking.
Sounds funny but i just wanted to know if its true and if there is any way of proving or disproving this?
Does anyone know of any studies which have been carried out that could shed some light on this topic?
