A bird-fancier will serve 100 hours community service after admitting five offences including possessing live wild birds. Wayne Sellars, 34, of Gipsey Road, Bridlington, had kept birds for 25 years and claimed to be a legitimate keeper. But RSPCA prosecutor Peter Tetlow told town magistrates the offences breached the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act. Sellars pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing live wild birds, as well as charges of attempting to take wild birds, unlawfully confining birds and possessing lime-coated twigs. Police were alerted after Sellars was spotted in Bilsdale Wood, Boynton, in March.

I just don't get keeping birds. Surely the most attractive thing about birds is flight so why prevent them from flying? Maybe keeping a Penguin in the fridge could be cool (!).
