My morning in Congaree NP (1 Viewer)

Had a good time out this morning even though I didn't get much birding done. Ran into a group of Wild Turkeys, a possum, and a Cottonmouth which I thought was a banded water snake until it started to slither towards me and run me out of its territory, lol.

Here's my amazing picture of the Wild Turkey (They weren't feeling very photogenic I suppose) and my Cottonmouth.

I grew up in Texas, and cottonmouths scare me almos as much as rattlesnakes. And I have a lot of Turkey shots just like yours, for such an ungainly looking bird, they sure can move.

The fact that they're swimming vipers makes them scarier than most snakes to me. Bad enough to run into venomous snakes on terra firma.

I'm originally from Texas too and grew up around them. My dad used to tell me a story about how one chased him away from his favorite fishing spot when he was a kid. The aggressivenes of this snake is legendary however to me it seemed more like he wanted to get a closer look at me more than scare me off.
