I have an ageing pair of 8X42 Minolta and c. £200 to spend; can anyone suggest their favourite? I like the look of Vortex Diamondback 8x42 and Ranger SRT 8x42?

I am no expert so wouldn't offer an opinion but it might be best to post this in the binocular section.
What I would suggest (what I did when in your situation) is to find a local optics stockist with outside views and go and try a good number. I was surprised by the differences I found.
