Slugs and Wood ash (1 Viewer)

Wasn't quite sure where to post this thread, but here goes.

Will the ash from my wood burner deter slugs from eating plants?

I'm sure I've read of this somewhere, but have never tried it, I planted some plants the other week, needless to say the slugs love 'em! I was thinking of placing a ring of ash around each plant, I don't want to use slug pellets.

Does anyone else have a bird friendly method of deterring slugs (besides the beer one).

Ta.
