Red Crested Pochard? At Willington, S.Derbyshire? (1 Viewer)

possRBPochardBF1.jpgThis duck was swimming among mallards today at Willington Gravel Pits LNR.
Another watcher came up with Red Crested Pochard from his iPhone app but, whilst beak & eye are correct colour and plumage may be juvenile/mid moult, the head shape doesn't look domed enough at the back. Another 'hybrid'?
Thanks in anticipation for any advice.

It doesn't look pure to me. The bird looks too long, forehead not steep enough and maybe bill too long too? Dunno what it's mated with, I'll leave that the experts, but the jizz looks almost merganser like to me.

The bird looks too long,... the jizz looks almost merganser like to me.
Good points, Jack. Unfortunately, I don't have any snaps of it alongside the mallards, but I don't recall it looking significantly longer than them. I may have to go and have another look tomorrow if he's still there...
