We have had a lot of success with Safflower seeds and obviously Nyjer but I'd be interested to hear what everyone else uses in the eastern USA. Im hoping to get our 100th yard species before the turn of the year and want to carry out a few projects around the yard to bring in more species. What do y'all use up north for Purple Finches and Pine Siskins (both scarce visitors for Florida)? :t: :flyaway:
 
When researching the effectiveness of bird seeds for my backyard in England I found these useful US sites.

A multi-state experimental study on the attractiveness of different seeds.

They found very little difference between states. Sunflower hearts and white proso millet were recommended as all you need to offer.

This biologist/ecologist/entomologist writes wild-life columns and has a radio show, with a bias towards birds. His website is a good read.
