G1x
Has anyone got/used a g1x yet? I am tempted to get one so would be interested to hear how others are getting on with them.

Hopefully not, the G1X is the funky compact with the big sensor at about £600 and not the stunning new DSLR (the 1Dx) at £5K+!

I'll start a new thread on the G1 X as I've had one for a couple of months and just took it on a short trip to Barcelona and the Pyrenees.

Well it's in the shop waiting for me to collect it... looking forward to getting my hands on it and seeing how it performs.

Well having had the camera in my hands for a day now I thought I would post my initial impressions. Firstly it is a big lump of camera, significantly larger than the old G series cameras (no surprise) also larger than the Nikon J1 and the Panasonic GF range. It does feel very solid and well made and the dials and buttons feel like they have been made to last. The AF is slow as has been well reported but it seem acurate enough and first images look excellent. Having to flip between macro and standard a lot as the focus range is quite limited but I am sure I'll get used to it. It is definitely not a camera for close up work but does seem like a good choice for landscape and portraits. The big senser means that the image quality and noise handling are very good. I have yet to compa shots on the PC but I suspect that ISO800 is similar to ISO80 on my old G9!

Hi Pete seems like quite an expense for doing landscapes and portraits or are you thinking of returning to digiscoping?

Has anyone used this underwater (with housing)? Also, anyone know if it will take a wide angled lens?
Thanks, Micky. |

Bad luck Pete. Transport is definitely more important than another camera.
