Dawn sweeps in strongly on a Sou'wester, clouds washing over the dunes of the hills. The sycamores' seeds spin and swerve, helicoptering in spirals, while stripped leaves in a blizzard sail across the valley.
And, across the valley, Swallows swim against the surf like salmon up a torrent, low in the lee, searching for easier southerly passage, skimming the woods.
Common gulls tack against the blowing, pitching and yawing, pearly grey wings in the dawn light. The Autumn's first. A flock of thrushes dive from the sky, looking for shelter, in from Scandinavia, moving on South.
Then a Kestrel launches into the wind, and with a feather's flick, lifts like a rocket into the sky. She turns, pursued by Jackdaws and piles down the slope on the wind's arrow.
Seven Lapwings up high flap downwind as a Snipe flickers stiffly, bill dipped and leading the way as it jinks into the wash. A Cormorant tilts on the crest of a wave and descends along the curve of the wind.
