Bird ID book (1 Viewer)

Paul E

Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so
I am visiting the US in Feb/March starting in Chicago but quickly heading west. I need to get a bird ID book for the US and as I will travelling around I need it to be not too large (but not too superficial either). I will be spening most time in California so probably a Western US guide would work best. Does anyone have any recommendations from the many available.

Thanks

Sibley's is the definitive book, but an updated Peterson's Field Guide to Western Birds should also be very handy (and less bulky).

Less bulky than the big Sibley but not the Western Sibley, which is as about as compact as they come.
